Starting a new job can be an anxious experience and you may feel a little disorientated. We want to make sure that you have the time and space to find out about Camden and your new role and meet the people you’ll be working with.

All new workers to CSFH must have a 6 week period of induction that introduces them  to Camden and helps them prepare to take up their role. Every new worker will have an induction plan that sets out a timetable of events and activities designed to help them settle into their role. For an overview of our induction practice please see the Induction policy.

All new permanent workers (not agency workers) will be subject to a probation period of 6 months (or 12 months for newly-qualified social workers who are subject to a 12 month probation period during their Assessed and Supported Year of Employment) during which they are assessed and supported to develop their skills so that they are able to fulfil their role. More information on the probation period is available on Essentials.

All new staff joining CSFH (including agency workers) need to know what to expect from their induction programme and to work closely with their manager to implement their induction plan. For more details see the Induction handbook for staff.

Managers are responsible for induction, including drawing up induction plans and monitoring progress in implementation. For more details see the Induction handbook for managers.

Induction plans should be recorded using the template and should be completed with the new worker when they first join.

Managers are also responsible for completing the induction checklist which should be placed on the worker's personal supervision file within 3 months of them joining.

Induction training is mandatory and should be completed within the stated timescales:

  • MOSAIC training should be completed within 3 working days of joining; managers are responsible for liaising with IT to arrange this.
  • All staff should attend systemic training with the Systemic Family Therapy Service as soon as possible.
  • Corporate e-learning modules should be completed within 6 weeks of joining.
  • New social workers should attend the Early Help Service induction sessions which are run every month; to book please visit: Camden LMS: Log in to the site

Managers need to make sure new staff are aware of the relevant administrative and finance procedures and have an opportunity to meet with service co-ordinators to go through these procedures.
